Expertise

Built for the categories that are hardest to get right.

We formulate across all six categories to the same standard. In textured hair, pet care, and teen skin, we have also built out the ingredient knowledge and the bench time these categories ask for.

01All curl patterns, scalp first

Textured hair

We formulate for every curl pattern and routine, and treat the scalp as skin in its own right.

Why it's growing

For a long time, textured hair had to make do with products designed for someone else's. That is changing quickly, and much of the energy is around scalp care — customers who know their way around skincare are looking for that same thoughtfulness on a shampoo bottle, and they notice when it isn't there.

What we watch for

Textured hair isn't one thing, so a range can't be either. A tight coil needs slip and softness without losing its shape, while a loose wave needs moisture that won't weigh it flat. And if your customers wear braids or twists, the product has to reach the scalp rather than sit on top of it. We keep those differences in view from the first bench trial.

02The whole household, one standard

Pet care

We develop pet formulas to the same standard as human skincare, rather than adapting industrial products.

Why it's growing

Pets are family, and the shelf has caught up. People are buying coat conditioners, paw balms and grooming routines that look a lot like their own — and reading the ingredient list on the back the same way they would for themselves.

What we watch for

A pet isn't a small person. Their skin sits at a different pH, so a wash built for human skin can leave it dry and uncomfortable. And natural doesn't automatically mean safe here — tea tree is perfectly ordinary in human cosmetics, but cats can't process it. No one checks these formulas before they reach the shelf, so we treat getting that right as part of our job, not just yours.

03Oil control without stripping

Teen skin

We formulate for a skin barrier that is still developing, instead of giving teenagers adult actives at adult strengths.

Why it's growing

Teenagers are building skincare routines earlier than any generation before them, mostly from what they see online. The interest is genuine — but a lot of what ends up in the basket was designed for a much older face.

What we watch for

Young skin is still finding its footing, and adult-strength actives tend to leave it irritated rather than clearer. Dermatologists have been saying so for a while, and parents and retailers are reading labels more closely because of it. So we start with the barrier: gentle cleansing, oil control that calms instead of stripping, and actives chosen because they genuinely suit young skin — not because they've been watered down from an adult formula.

The team behind your formula

Expertise you can’t buy off the shelf.

Most contract manufacturers run your formula. Ours is built by people who spent their careers inventing the technologies the industry runs on — and who now put that experience behind every Sylvara project, whatever its size.

01Profile

Senior R&D consultant

Our consultant’s career spans more than 45 years at the scientific center of the beauty industry. He served as Global Vice President of R&D for Hair Care and Hair Color at Estée Lauder for nearly two decades, as Global VP of R&D Beauty Care at Revlon — where his team’s patented ColorStay technology earned the industry’s Charlie Award — and most recently as a senior science and technology leader at Unilever, guiding hair and skin innovation for brands including TRESemmé, Nexxus, Dove, and SheaMoisture. Earlier chapters include hair care formulation and technology leadership at Procter & Gamble in the US and Europe, and reactive hair technology at L’Oréal/Redken.

He holds more than 60 issued patents, spanning hair fiber physiology and chemistry, scalp and microbiome science, hair loss and growth, and oxidative hair color — alongside hands-on experience in OTC development, regulatory, packaging, and contract manufacturing on both sides of the process.

What this means for your brand

The same scientist who led textured hair and multicultural R&D for SheaMoisture and TCB now advises on Sylvara formulations — from curl-pattern care and scalp health to hair growth claims you can actually support.

02Profile

Lead formulation chemist & lab manager

Every formula that leaves Sylvara passes through our lead chemist’s hands. In her first 90 days she led more than 40 formulation projects end to end — concept, ingredient selection, formulation, revision, and final delivery — across hair care, body care, and self-tanning. Before Sylvara, she spent years at an innovation lab taking cosmetic formulations from lab to launch, building the SOPs and scale-up documentation that keep quality consistent from first sample to full production run.

Her formulation philosophy is rooted in clean beauty: botanical actives, modern naturals, and mild surfactant systems — chosen not for the label but for performance, and always translated into compliant, science-backed ingredient stories your marketing team can stand behind.

What this means for your brand

Your formula is developed, documented, and scaled by the same chemist — no handoffs, no lost details, and a partner who can explain every ingredient choice in plain language.

Together, our consultant and lead chemist review formulations across every Sylvara category — pairing decades of big-brand science with the agility of a lab built for emerging brands. It’s how we keep minimums low without ever lowering the standard.
